State Senator Eric Lesser, the Board of Selectmen in Chester, and national group The People for Bernie Sanders announce endorsements
Huntington, MA, (May 3, 2018) — Emerging from a crowded field of eight candidates for state representative in the First Franklin District, Kate Albright-Hanna announced several major national, state and local endorsements of her bid to fill the seat of retiring state representative Stephen Kulik.
Senator Eric Lesser (D-Longmeadow) is the first statewide officeholder to officially endorse a candidate running in the First Franklin District.
“Since our days working together on the 2008 Obama campaign and into the Administration, Kate has shown a clear understanding of how to build coalitions within complex organizations — a political skill that will serve her well as she fights for the people of the First Franklin District. I enthusiastically endorse her, and look forward to teaming up with her on projects that will have a big impact on our quality of life — like more rail service, student debt relief, and local economic development. This is a great opportunity for Western Massachusetts to send a visionary new leader to Boston,” Lesser said.
“Eric is my hero and model for how to get big things done in the Massachusetts legislature — like increased rail service to Western Massachusetts,” Albright-Hanna said. “I am beyond thrilled to have his support.”
Albright-Hanna also received the endorsements of the entire Board of Selectmen in Chester, including Chairman John Baldasaro, Vice Chair Barbara Huntoon, and Rene Senecal.
“Kate is just who we need to represent our area in Boston. I’ve come to know Kate as smart, energetic, and committed to our towns. She gets the big picture and the nuances that make us unique and I look forward to working with her on the hilltowns’ behalf. Kate’s got my vote!” said Huntoon.
Albright-Hanna officially kicked off her campaign in Chester on March 27th because, she said, “Chester has a bold vision and spirit of innovation that will propel the Hilltowns forward. I am incredibly honored to have the support of John, Barbara and Rene, and look forward to working with them to bring their vision to fruition.”
Nationally, The People for Bernie Sanders, a grassroots group that has 1,419,757 followers on Facebook, also recently endorsed Albright-Hanna.
Moumita Ahmed, a co-founder of the group, said, “I’m extremely excited to throw my support behind Kate because we need better representation for women, families, and working class people in office. Kate has been there for me through my journey as an organizer, I consider her a real ally and a bold progressive who will fight for all of us not just the few.”
